Koh Phi Phi is one of Thailand’s jewels. It lies off the Andaman Sea in the southern part of Thailand. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days and enjoy the island’s heavenly beaches and magical nature.

Whether you’re traveling alone or with your family, Koh Phi Phi offers activities for the whole family, including the famous Maya Baye. Koh Phi Phi has one main town, Tonsai. Tonsai is home to most of the island’s hotels and restaurants. If you’d like to find your own little paradise, I advise you to get away from Tonsai and choose accommodation accessible only by boat.

Visit Maya Baye

Maya Baye is one of Koh Phi Phi’s most famous attractions. This bay is one of the most beautiful in Thailand, offering breathtaking scenery. For several years now, Maya Baye has been closed for several weeks a year to encourage the regeneration of the flora and fauna. Bathing is also prohibited.

Personally, I visited it with a tour that left Koh Phi Phi very early in the morning to be there when it opened. The experience was incredible, as there were only a few of us and we had this magnificent place all to ourselves. Below are some similar tours to the one I took. It’s quite possible to book such tours directly on Koh Phi Phi.

Snorkeling / Diving

Visiting the seabed of Koh Phi Phi in Thailand is one of the experiences I’ve had. There’s a wide variety of marine species, some of which I’ve never seen before on my dives. For thrill-seekers, depending on the season and your luck, it’s possible to swim with some magnificent sharks. Whether snorkeling or diving, the experience is magical.

My opinion of Koh Phi Phi

My experience on Koh Phi Phi was an interesting one. On the one hand, I loved the natural environment, whether it be the beaches, the seabed or the island’s various bays. On the other hand, I didn’t like the very touristy atmosphere on the island and in Tonsai.

I still recommend visiting Koh Phi Phi in Thailand, especially if you’re a nature lover. But, if you’re like me and you’re looking for peace and quiet, I’d advise you to stay outside Tonsai’s hyper-center. Our accommodation, Uphill Cottage, was perfect for this. Because it was located outside the center and in the heights of Koh Phi Phi.
