Railay is actually a peninsula in the province of Krabi in southern Thailand. It’s best known for its dreamy beaches and cliffs that make climbers salivate. Due to the natural environment surrounding Railay, the peninsula is only accessible via the Andaman Sea.

It was in the 80s that Railay began to become famous among travellers in search of nature and adventure. Even today, Railay attracts a large number of tourists every year. From those seeking thrills on the rock faces to those preferring to bask on the beach, Railay is a destination to suit everyone. What’s more, Railay is also home to the region’s typical flora and fauna, with numerous monkeys and fish in the sea.

Travellers generally decide to visit Railay Beach either for a day or to spend a few days there. The peninsula offers several restaurants and hotels for those wishing to enjoy the beauty of Railay.

The advantage of staying a few nights is that once the boat connections are over, the peninsula’s beaches empty out and the area becomes much quieter.

How to get to Railay Beach

Boats depart from either Krabi Town or Ao Nang. The trip from the ports takes around 15-20 minutes. The trip costs around 100-150 baht per person. The easiest way to get tickets is to go directly to the port in Ao Nang or Krabi Town.

The hike can be made when the tide is out and takes around 45 minutes. If you wish to get there by boat, the journey is considerably shorter. There are plenty of boats available in Railay.

Phra Nang Beach

Phra Nang Beach is the beach not to be missed on your visit to Railay. This place is the definition of paradise. Slightly less crowded than Railay Beach, Phra Nang Beach offers dream access to the sea and also a grandiose landscape. The kind you usually see on postcards.

Phra Nang Cave

Also known as the Cave of Fertility or the Princess, this cave is home to several penis sculptures and many offerings. Many people visit this place in the hope of increasing their fertility and their chances of having a child.

Railay Viewpoint
