Where is Ao Nang, Krabi?
Ao Nang is located in the province of Krabi in southern Thailand. Ao Nang is one of the best-known seaside resorts in the Krabi region. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days by the sea and discover the nearby islands.
When to visit Ao Nang and Krabi?
You can visit Ao Nang and Krabi all year round. The region, like all of Thailand, has a dry season and a rainy season. Each season has its advantages and disadvantages.
Dry season: This period generally runs from November to April. It’s the perfect time to discover paradise beaches. It is also the most touristic and expensive time to visit Ao Nang and Krabi.
Rainy season: The rainy season extends from May to October. It generally rains only a few hours a day, usually in the afternoon. Tourist numbers are slightly lower and prices more affordable.
Personally, I went there in July, and in the 3 days I spent there, it only rained twice for a maximum of 2 hours!
How do I get to Ao Nang, Krabi?
The province of Krabi and the town of Ao Nang are easily accessible from the various tourist hubs of Thailand, as well as from abroad. Krabi has its own international airport.
From Krabi airport
The easiest way to get to Ao Nang from Krabi airport is by cab or Grab. The journey takes around 30 minutes and costs around 15 CHF/EURO. There is also a bus connecting the two places. The journey is slightly longer. However, it only costs around 4 CHF/EURO per person.
From Bangkok, the best ways to get to Ao Nang and Krabi are either by plane or by night bus. The choice depends on the time you have available and your budget.
Air travel takes between 2h30 and 3h00. There are many daily connections between the two cities. Fares vary according to the time of year, from 25 to 150 CHF/EURO. Please note that checked baggage is often not included.
The second option is to take the night bus. The journey is considerably longer, taking around 13 hours. The bus arrives in the town of Krabi. From there, you can either take the songtaew (public bus). This costs 60 Baht per person.
Visiting Ao Nang and Krabi from Phuket is fairly quick and easy. There are two main options. The first is to take a mini-bus. The journey takes around 3 hours and costs 6-7 CHF/EURO per person.
The second option is to go by sea. A ferry links Ao Nang and Phuket several times a day. The journey is a little shorter, taking 2 hours 45 minutes. Fares vary from 17 CHF/EURO to 27 CHF/EURO, depending on the timetable and company.

What to do in Ao Nang, Krabi?
There’s plenty to discover in the Ao Nang and Krabi region. Whether you’re looking for beautiful beaches or want to discover the region’s impressive nature, Ao Nang and Krabi will charm you.
Here’s an overview of the best things to do when visiting Ao Nang and Krabi!
This is the trip to make if you want to discover beaches just a few minutes by boat from Ao Nang and Krabi. Railay is actually a small village with two magnificent beaches. It’s possible to stay on site, but the vast majority of visitors come for the day!
It’s very easy to get there on your own from Ao Nang. There is a boat service linking the two places several times a day. The journey takes around 15 minutes and costs 200 baht per person for the round trip.
It’s also possible to discover the area on an organized tour.
Swimming in natural pools
If you want to get away from the seaside, the Krabi region is home to some magnificent natural pools. These natural pools are emerald-blue in color. In some ways, they resemble certain Mexican cenotes.
You can get there easily by scooter or cab from Ao Nang or Krabi, if you wish to visit independently. The other way to visit the emerald pools is on an organized tour.
7 Islands Excursion
This is one of the best things to do in Ao Nang. It’s usually an all-day excursion that takes in some of the region’s most beautiful islands. There is also a shorter option that will take you to 3 or 4 islands.
It’s easiest to book an excursion, but it’s also possible to hire a boat and private driver for the day.
Ao Nang is home to a magnificent Asian elephant sanctuary. Visiting the sanctuary is a good way to learn more about the life and habits of these great animals.
There are several sanctuaries in the region, and I recommend that you find out as much as possible about their ethical practices before visiting.
The Tiger Temple is a wonderful walk to take if you’re visiting Ao Nang and Krabi. This temple is nestled at the top of a mountain and offers a magnificent view of the region. I recommend getting there early in the morning to avoid the heat.
It’s also possible to discover it on your own. It’s very easy and economical. There are also many excursions from Ao Nang, usually lasting half a day.
Climbing the region’s cliffs
As well as being a bathing paradise, the Krabi and Ao Nang region is also a dream location for climbing enthusiasts. There are many routes for all levels, with breathtaking panoramas.
You’ll find plenty of local shops/tour operators offering climbing trips. You can book online in advance if you wish.
Where to stay in Ao Nang, Krabi?
The province of Krabi, and Ao Nang in particular, offers a wide choice of accommodation to suit all budgets. Personally, I chose to stay in Ao Nang rather than Krabi because the beach is much nicer in Ao Nang.

I stayed at this hotel, which is superbly located on Ao Nang’s main street. The rooms are modern and spacious. The hotel also has a sizeable swimming pool. The Sabai Hotel offers not only a hotel part, but also a hostel part with dormitory rooms!
TAN Hostel x Cafe is a small hostel just a few steps from the beach. Ideally located, the hostel is modern and offers a calm atmosphere. Dormitories are air-conditioned and all beds have private curtains!
Located right next to the beach, the Central Anda Dhevi is a modern hotel. It offers an exceptional swimming pool and a perfect geographical location for discovering the city and the region.
$$$ – Ban Sainai Resort
The Ban Saunai Resort is located in an incredible setting not far from the center of Ao Nang. This hotel is one of the most beautiful in the region. Between the magnificent swimming pool, the palm trees and the surrounding cliffs, this is the place to stay if you want to treat yourself!
